Pause Vs. Reboot: What Are The Key Differences?

What’s the differences between the Reboot and Pause models?

We get this question all the time, “What’s the differences between the Reboot and Pause models?”

It’s a great question considering they are both manufactured in the same plant. Before I get into the 4 key differences, I want to provide a little history on Pause and their evolution in the overlanding and off-grid travel trailer space.

Pause is a subsidiary of Forest River, and they are based in Ligonier, Indiana near Elkhart where nearly 85% of all RVs in America are produced. At ROA OFF-ROAD, our mission has always been to offer the best travel trailers in the USA. For years, that meant importing models from other countries, simply because most American-made trailers didn’t meet the quality standards we believe our customers deserve, let alone an off-road and off-grid capable trailer.

This all changed when we got a call from Pause in October of 2022.

October of 2022 is when the phone rang… it was a call from who? Forest River? What could they possibly have to offer us?

They proceeded to tell us about a new off-road travel trailer they had been working on the past couple years called Pause. They explained to us all the details from the air suspension, composite wall construction to the robust power systems. It all sounded amazing! They invited us to come see them at the Overland Expo in Virginia, and we had to see it for ourselves.

The Pause XC20.2 at the Overland Expo Virginia

After meeting with Maynard, who heads the Pause division, and seeing the product we were blown away! We couldn’t believe a “big boy” RV manufacturer from Indiana was making something so high-quality, robust and off-grid capable. Pause had something special on their hands. With some feedback from us and attendees from the expo, Pause had developed one of the best travel trailers in America and has been growing in the overland market ever since.

They offered 4 floor plans in their Pause lineup:

These models were great from small to big, family size to couples size they all offered the most premium components and construction, but Pause wanted to offer something that would be more accessible to more people. In early 2024, they revealed their Pause Reboot lineup which came in at a lower price point with more options to customize the trailer the way the customer wanted.

They currently offer 3 Reboot floor plans:

Now that you have a little history, let’s go through the key differences and you can decide which one fits you best!

CONSTRUCTION

Let’s start with how these trailers are constructed because there are a few differences.

First, here are all the things that are the same:

  • Huck-Rivet Aluminum Frame
  • MORryde Air Suspension
  • Articulating Ball Hitch
  • Fully-Covered Underbelly

The Pause and Reboot models both offer high-quality construction starting with the frame built by MORryde, and an industry-leading suspension with 12″ of travel.

Now, the differences in construction:

  • Reboot has an overall wider body/frame
  • Wall Construction
    • Reboot walls are an aluminum framing with foam insulation and vapor barrier
    • Pause walls are a full composite wall with no framing or studs. Zero wood construction!
  • Cabinetry
    • Reboot cabinets are wood with locking metal latches
    • Aluminum cabinetry with strong magnets

Those are the key differences in construction, the Pause models are all built with ZERO wood with an all composite wall. The Reboot models are constructed with aluminum framing and foam insulation with wood cabinetry.

FLOOR PLANS

Next is the floor plan options! Like mentioned above, the Reboot has a wider body which opens up the floor plans and allows for larger bathrooms and sitting areas. In this section I will compare floor plans across the Pause and Reboot lines.

So which is better?

We’ve covered a lot of the differences in this blog post. It may be a lot to take in, but I am hoping this was an educational post for those of you who are curious about the key differences. I am sure there are a few things I missed, as always you can talk to a sales coach here at ROA OFF-ROAD with any detailed questions you have!

We hope to see you on an adventure soon!
